Morgan Stanley this week announced its latest group of managing directors.

The 155 promoted employees is smaller than recent years. The Institutional Securities Group, which houses the firm's investment banking and trading operations, accounted for 44% of the class, or just under 70 people.

Morgan Stanley started communicating year-end comp to employees on Wednesday and is set to report earnings on Tuesday, January 16.
