Dating apps like Bumble are the new norm when it comes to meeting people, finding dates, and starting relationships. But many of the same dating questions and concerns that people have in the real world exist online as well: Is she interested in me? Is he serious about dating?

This story is available exclusively to Business Insider subscribers. Become an Insider and start reading now.

One way to get a sense of the answer to questions like that is to know if the other person has read, but not responded, to your messages. That's why it's helpful to know if Bumble has read receipts to let you know when a message has been read.

Does Bumble have read receipts?

Despite the convenience that read receipts would offer, Bumble does not offer any sort of read receipt feature, either by default or as part of a premium upgrade. That means it's not possible to tell if a user you've been conversing with has read your message. Of course, the opposite is true as well — other users won't see an indication if you have read their messages, either.

Be aware, though, that Bumble displays the same sort of three-dot indication that you are typing that iPhone users see when texting with iMessage. If you start typing a reply when someone is looking at your chat page, they can see that you are responding. And that implies you have definitely seen their most recent message. If you stop typing and don't send the message, they'll still know you had seen the last message.

How other dating apps handle read receipts

When it comes to read receipts, other dating apps are a bit of a mixed bag – some notify you about read messages, while others do not. Like Bumble, Hinge does not have read receipts.

But some other popular dating apps let you purchase read receipts as a premium subscription upgrade — you can purchase "packs" of read receipts within dating apps like Tinder, OkCupid, and Match. eHarmony is one of the few dating apps that include read receipts as a part of the basic service without the need to buy read receipts as a separate feature.
