CAAs Charles Melniker dies

Charles N. Melniker, business affairs exec at Creative Artists Agency, died at home in New York City on Tuesday, March 13, following a battle with lung cancer. He was 60.

Melniker started his legal career at United Artists as associate counsel, then moved to RCTV/The Entertainment Channel. In 1983, Melniker moved with his family to Los Angeles to work at talent agency ICM and later Columbia Pictures. In 1990, he opened his own management firm, Melniker Management, representing writers, directors, actors and producers.

He joined CAA in 2001 and remained at the agency until his death.

“Charles was not merely a remarkably talented and widely admired colleague, but an inspiration as well,” the CAA Partners said in a statement. “His relentless optimism, passion for his work and devotion to his family and friends were regular reminders to us all of what it means to embrace and enjoy life. Our hearts go out to Charles’ loving family at this incredibly difficult time.”

Melniker was born in Rockville Centre, N.Y. He graduated from Tufts U. in 1973 with a degree in political science and from Fordham U. School of Law in 1977; he was admitted to the New York State Bar the same year.

He is survived by his wife, Nadine; three daughters; a granddaughter; his brother; and his parents.

Shiva will be observed at the home of Benjamin and Shirley Melniker (14 Glenwood Road, Roslyn Harbor, N.Y.) on Saturday, March 17, from 7-9 p.m.; Sunday, March 18, from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m.; and Monday, March 19, from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m.
